The Shawangunk Ridge Biodiversity Partnership

Vision Statement:
Composed of non-profit and public organizations, the Shawangunk Ridge Biodiversity Partnership uses science and land management strategies to preserve the sensitive, wildlife habitat and other natural resources of the Shawangunks.

Informed by field research findings, partners collaboratively manage the larger landscape, provide environmental education, and work with local communities to preserve open space on the slopes of the ridge.

In 2003, the Partnership completed a set of guidelines that identified the key ecological communities of the ridge and the greatest threats to their long-term sustainability. These guidelines have informed the development of a cooperative, ridge-wide plan to
preserve the beauty and ecological integrity of over 40,000 protected acres of the Shawangunks, while maintaining high levels of public access and enjoyment. The Partnership has identified the absence of planned fire as one of the main threats to the long-term survival of the ridge ecosystem.
